DIWA NXT automatic transmission

The right transmission at the right time.

Make way for Driventic: The DIWA NXT is the next generation of our proven DIWA automatic transmission. Optimized efficiency is its standout feature: It boasts a second overdrive, a separate retarder, and an optional central recuperation unit (CRU) with 48 V technology that keeps fuel consumption as low as possible, in both city and regional buses.

Your benefits at a glance

DIWA NXT is the latest generation transmission for city, regional, and coach buses. Its most outstanding feature is optimized efficiency: it comes with a second overdrive, a separate retarder, and an optionally available central recuperation unit (CRU) that uses 48-volt technology to minimize fuel consumption – especially in intercity operation. The entire system is produced according to the latest automotive standards ISO 26262.

DIWA NXT

Automatic transmission for all bus operation

Join forces with us and make the most of the numerous advantages of the groundbreaking DIWA NXT mild hybrid system. Integrated into the flywheel housing of the engine, it works with a special inverter located at the top of the transmission to efficiently avoid line losses. Moreover, the optional 48 V mild hybrid system offers additional practical functions like stop-start, recuperation during braking, or boost support. Another optional feature is a special battery and cooling system, including an optimized DC/DC converter.

DIWA NXT is therefore bridging the gap between diesel drives and alternative technologies – and is Driventic’s logical response to the constantly growing demand for efficient and environmentally friendly drivetrain solutions.

More environmentally friendly urban, regional, and intercity transport

With its recuperation unit, DIWA NXT offers bus manufacturers a simple and comprehensive way to quickly hybridize their vehicles. Operators can use the system to make a sustainable contribution to significantly more environmentally friendly urban, regional, and intercity transport — while also substantially reducing their operating costs thanks to fuel savings of up to 16 percent. Even on long-distance routes and at high speeds.

DIWA NXT Success Story HSB

Greater efficiency for the new bus generation

Hanauer Straßenbahn GmbH (HSB) was one of the first companies to use the new generation of buses equipped with DIWA NXT on its regular routes. Since the end of 2022, a total of 16 new solo and articulated buses have been out and about on the streets of Hanau, the birthplace of the Brothers Grimm.

Lower pollutant emissions, lower fuel consumption

HSB’s 13 lines serve a total of 176 stops in a dense network with a length of 111 kilometers covering an area with a largely flat topography. This also means that the vehicles have to repeatedly brake, stop, and move off at short intervals. Average speeds are accordingly low. The reliable stop-start function of DIWA NXT significantly lowers the air pollutant emissions. This also has a positive effect on HSB’s bottom line: the optimized interplay between the motor and the transmission noticeably reduces the fuel consumption.

Thanks to our many years of good experience with Driventic, we were confident that we were opting for a sophisticated development with the new transmissions. The insights from practical operation during the last few months show that we made the right decision.

DIWA NXT Success Story OK.go

Demo bus making the rounds in regular service

Demand for new drive concepts such as DIWA NXT is rising steadily. This is because in order to make further progress in reducing CO2 emissions, bus operators such as OK.go will have to make sweeping changes to their fleets that go beyond the pure internal combustion engine in the coming years.

Multiple-week test phase on the way to greater sustainability

As far as emissions are concerned, the existing engine concepts have largely reached their limits. At the regional bus company OK.go, which, with its vehicles, makes a sizable contribution to public transport in the Ostalbkreis district just outside Stuttgart, the decision-making process for the changeover has also long since begun. The multiple-week test phase for our demo bus, a combination of an Iveco Crossway and DIWA NXT, is an important step in this journey toward greater sustainability.

It also makes economic sense to store the energy generated during braking and deceleration. This energy can then be used for electric starting and for supply of the on-board electrical system. Through this, fuel consumption can be efficiently reduced.

Dominik Jakob, Managing Director of OK.go
